This postcard offers a sweeping bird’s-eye view of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in Lourdes, nestled amid the wooded foothills of the Pyrenees. 
Lourdes became one of the foremost pilgrimage destinations in the Catholic world following the Marian apparitions reported by Bernadette Soubirous in 1858. The Basilica, completed in the late 19th century, was built directly above the Grotto of Massabielle where the visions occurred.
