The weavers of Colombia's Andean foothills have never made the distinction between a functional object and a considered one, because in Nariño, the two have always been the same thing. The diamond weave is identical whether the basket is destined for a dining table in the Cotswolds or a hallway in London. The object does not change its meaning depending on what is asked of it.
JJ keeps one by the front door and one on the kitchen table. Neither has ever been asked to do only one thing, and neither has ever objected.
