Paris, France – Le Trocadéro et le Pont d’Iéna – Postcard Early 20th Century
This postcard captures a bustling view of the old Palais du Trocadéro as seen from the Pont d’Iéna, with early motorcars and horse-drawn carriages crossing the Seine toward the monumental stairway and twin-towered palace.
The Palais du Trocadéro was built for the 1878 Exposition Universelle and stood until 1937, when it was replaced by the current Palais de Chaillot. Designed in a Moorish-Byzantine style, the Trocadéro was originally home to concert halls, museums, and panoramic terraces. Located on the Chaillot hill, it offered commanding views of the Eiffel Tower and Champ de Mars. The Pont d’Iéna, commissioned by Napoleon and completed in 1814, connects the Left Bank to this iconic ensemble. Together, they formed a central axis of imperial and exhibition-era Paris.
