Paris, France – Arc de Triomphe – Postcard Early 20th Century
This postcard captures the majestic Arc de Triomphe standing proudly at the center of Place Charles de Gaulle, one of Paris’s most iconic intersections.
Commissioned by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1806 following his victory at Austerlitz, the Arc de Triomphe was completed in 1836 and remains a powerful symbol of French national pride. It honors those who fought and died for France during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, with the names of generals and battles inscribed on its surfaces. The monument also houses the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier beneath its vault, added in 1921.
