This postcard features La Fontaine Cantini, a monumental fountain standing proudly in the heart of Marseille.
The Fontaine Cantini was inaugurated in 1913 and named after Jules Cantini, a wealthy Marseillais patron of the arts who bequeathed the funds for its creation. It is located on the prestigious Rue de Rome and was designed by architect André-Joseph Allar. The fountain is an emblem of Marseille’s civic pride and cultural ambition during the Belle Époque. It not only beautified the cityscape but also served as a gathering point in one of Marseille’s most fashionable districts.
