This postcard showcases the imposing Baroque façade of St. John’s Co-Cathedral, one of Valletta’s most significant historical and architectural landmarks. Framed by twin bell towers with red spires and adorned with a prominent clock and sundial, the church stands as a symbol of Malta’s religious and cultural heritage.
Built between 1572 and 1577 by the Order of St. John, St. John’s Co-Cathedral was designed by Maltese architect Girolamo Cassar and later richly decorated in the Baroque style. Though austere on the outside, its interior is famed for intricate marble tombs, gilded walls, and masterpieces by artists like Caravaggio. The church served as the spiritual home of the Knights of Malta and remains one of the most visited landmarks in Valletta.
The reverse side features a clean, divided-back format with no publisher’s imprint, typical of Mid-20th-century European postcards made for international mailing.
