This postcard features the narrow Rue de la Boucherie in Caudebec-en-Caux, lined with centuries-old timber-framed houses leaning precariously over a small canal.
Caudebec-en-Caux, situated on the banks of the Seine in Normandy, has deep medieval roots and was an important port and market town from the Middle Ages into the 19th century. Rue de la Boucherie, or "Butchery Street," was historically home to the town’s meat markets and slaughterhouses. The proximity to running water made it a suitable location for such trades, though it also contributed to unsanitary conditions that were common in medieval European towns.
The card features a classic French divided back format for correspondence and address.
