Erected between 1850 and 1859, the Colonne du Congrès commemorates the Belgian National Congress of 1830-31, which established the country’s independence and constitutional monarchy. Around its base burn the flames of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, honoring those who gave their lives for Belgium.
