Obverse: Features the façade of the Church of the Society of Jesus (Iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús) in Quito, one of the most important and ornate baroque churches in Latin America. The denomination "20" is displayed in all four corners, with "VEINTE SUCRES" written prominently on both sides of the central design. The serial number "18646079" is printed twice in red. Lettering reads "BANCO CENTRAL DEL ECUADOR" and the date "Abril 29 de 1986" (April 29, 1986).
Reverse: Displays the coat of arms of Ecuador in the center, framed by elaborate guilloche patterns. The denomination "20" is shown in all four corners, and the text "BANCO CENTRAL DEL ECUADOR" and "VEINTE SUCRES" appear prominently.
