I took this photo when I was 18 years old. As a photographer, I was still an amateur. I’m proud of this picture. The great saxophone player (the greatest saxophone player I would say) standing there, being shy while taking the applause…
Gijsbert Hanekroot (Brussels, 1945) started his career in 1969 and worked for magazines and newspapers in the 1970s. His career as a photojournalist perfectly aligned with the explosion of the rock scene. He masterfully documented the golden age of music history and photographed many of the greatest icons of the era. Hanekroot aimed to capture images that revealed the person behind the musician. This resulted in portraits that are natural and intimate, relaxed and sincere. And in dazzling concert photographs.
The photographer is represented by Blitz Gallery, Tokyo, Blue Lotus Gallery, Hong Kong, Mondo Galeria, Madrid, Proud Galleries, London and ONO-Arte, Bologna, among others.
