Aleardo Villa (1865–1906), Attribuito a - Signora con manicotto di pelliccia

The pencil drawing measures 13x8 cm and was made by the artist on the back of a SAOF
advertising card (Società anonima ossidi di ferro).
The distinctive realization of this work can be explained by knowing the life of Aleardo Villa
(Cuneo 1865-Milan 1906). A painter, illustrator, and advertiser, in addition to producing pictorial
works, among the famous examples of his art are his advertising posters made for important
companies of his time, among which stands out one for a gas-supply company (in the photos
one can see a mention in the sale of the painting created for the advertising poster whose
subject is "Lady with a fur muff" that advertises a gas company for heating). The drawing in
question attributed to him is a pencil sketch probably made directly on the advertising card of
the company that consulted him, to show the potential client his advertising idea. Below is a
brief list of the companies that relied on his advertising talent:
1897 - Pallanza Regattas; Allegory of Cafe and Banana; 1898 - Bocconi Brothers' Department
Stores; 1899 - Mele Packaging of Naples; 1900 - Bitter Campari; Campari cordial; Caffaro; 1902 -
Aerogenic Gas; 1905 - Oleoblitz; 1907 - JOB cigarette papers.
