John Henry Mohrmann - (1857–1916) - Zeeuws kustlandschap met boten
John Henry Mohrmann was an American-Belgian-Canadian naval painter, specializing in realistic ship portraits and harbor scenes. In his youth he sailed as a ship's boy and sailor, which gave him a thorough knowledge of ships and life at sea.
Around 1884 he settled in Antwerp, where he actively worked as a painter of existing sail and steamships for shipowners and captains. His work is known for the accurate depiction of vessels, combined with an evocative maritime setting.
Paintings by Mohrmann are in maritime museum collections and private collections in Europe and North America.
