This rare Italian postage stamp was issued in 1889 during the reign of King Umberto I. It has a face value of 5 Lire and is listed as Sassone number 49 in the Italian stamp catalog. The stamp features a portrait of King Umberto I in an ornate oval frame, printed in green and carmine colors.
It was the highest denomination in its series and was used for a short time until 1891. Because of its limited use and high value, the stamp is rare, especially in used condition.
