Since antiquity, this passage has held immense maritime and military importance, from Phoenician traders to the Royal Navy. The lighthouse featured is the Europa Point Lighthouse (Trinity Lighthouse), first lit in 1841 under the direction of the British Admiralty. Nearby fortifications reflect Gibraltar’s longstanding role as a fortified British territory, crucial for controlling naval access between continents.
