1914 Rotterdam, Netherlands – Beurs – Postcard

Regular price £15.00 GBP

This early 20th-century postcard presents a lively scene in front of the Beurs (Stock Exchange) building in Rotterdam.
The Beurs of Rotterdam was a centerpiece of the city's commercial life, reflecting its rise as one of Europe’s most important port cities. This view, captured just before World War I in 1914, shows the Beurs before it was destroyed during the German bombardment in 1940. The viaduct seen at right was part of the elevated railway system that exemplified Rotterdam’s early embrace of industrial progress and efficient urban design.
