The Eiffel Tower, designed by Gustave Eiffel, was constructed for the 1889 Exposition Universelle (World’s Fair) held in Paris to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. At 330 meters (1,083 feet) tall, it was the tallest structure in the world at the time and remained so until the Chrysler Building surpassed it in 1930.
