This postcard presents a frontal view of the Arc de Triomphe, one of the most iconic monuments in Paris.
Commissioned by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1806 following his victory at Austerlitz, the Arc de Triomphe was completed in 1836 under King Louis-Philippe. It stands 50 meters high and honors those who fought and died for France during the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. Beneath the arch lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, added in 1921 after World War I. Located at the Place de l’Étoile (now Place Charles de Gaulle), the arch is both a national symbol of pride and a commemorative structure.
