The Basilica of the Holy Blood is one of the most spiritually and architecturally significant churches in Belgium. It houses a relic believed to contain the blood of Christ, brought to Bruges after the Second Crusade by Thierry of Alsace. The upper chapel, known for its elaborate neo-Gothic renovation in the 19th century, contrasts with the more austere Romanesque lower chapel. The Tribune, featured here, plays a central role in the annual Procession of the Holy Blood, a tradition dating back to the Middle Ages that continues to draw pilgrims and visitors from around the world.
