Ampezzotal, Austria – Dürrensee und die Ampezzostraße – Postcard Eary 20th Century
This postcard offers a breathtaking view of the Dürrensee (Lago di Landro) and the scenic Ampezzostraße winding through the Ampezzo Valley in the heart of the Dolomites.
The Dürrensee, located in the South Tyrolean section of the Dolomites near the border with Veneto, was a popular stop along the Ampezzostraße, the historic mountain road connecting Toblach (Dobbiaco) with Cortina d'Ampezzo. The road, completed in the 19th century under the Austro-Hungarian Empire, became a vital route for trade, tourism, and later military operations during World War I.
The card follows the early German “Postkarte” format with an undivided back, typical of pre-1905 issues.
