1910 Rotterdam, Netherlands – Westerkade – Postcard Early 20th Century

Regular price £15.00 GBP

This early 20th-century postcard captures a charming moment along the Westerkade, a scenic quay in the bustling port city of Rotterdam.
The Westerkade is part of Rotterdam’s historic Scheepvaartkwartier (Shipping Quarter), which flourished in the 19th and early 20th centuries as a residential area for the city's elite, including shipowners, merchants, and consuls. The quay bordered a series of canals and basins that were critical to Rotterdam’s status as one of Europe’s largest ports.
Handwritten Message (Reverse)
Dated February 19, 1910, the card was sent by Miss Greeta Gunning of Rotterdam to Miss Ethel Kaiser of Subiaco, Western Australia. The sender writes:
"Dear Miss Kaiser, I'm collecting postcards and I shall be very much pleased if you will send me a postcard of your country. My address is..."
This brief but warm message speaks to the global postcard exchange culture of the early 1900s—a form of casual international pen-palship that bridged distances through shared glimpses of daily life.
