This postcard offers a view of the Cisterns of Tawila in Aden, Yemen, capturing a key pathway that leads to the famous Aden Tanks (Cisterns of Tawila). These ancient water reservoirs, located in the surrounding hills of Aden, were constructed as early as the 7th century by the Himyarite Kingdom and later expanded during Ottoman rule. The purpose of the cisterns was to collect and store rainwater, essential for the arid region’s survival. The road seen here served as a vital route for transporting water and supplies.
