Handgeschnitzter Holzstuhl. Die Makonde sind eine ethnische Gruppe im Südosten Tansanias und im Norden Mosambiks.

In ganz Tansania stellen viele verschiedene Volksgruppen ähnliche Stühle her, bei denen Rückenlehne, Sitzfläche und Beine alle aus einem Stück Holz geschnitzt sind. Sie werden in der Regel in einem aufrechten Stil mit eingeschnittenen Mustern gefertigt, und dieser hier hat Hände in die Rückenlehne geschnitzt und einen skulpturierten Kopf, der die Rückenlehne krönt.

Dies stellt einen Vorfahren dar, der um Schutz, Wohlstand oder Glück angerufen werden kann.
