This vintage postcard captures the world-renowned Ponte di Rialto spanning the Grand Canal in Venice at sunset.
Completed in 1591, the Ponte di Rialto is the oldest of the four bridges crossing the Grand Canal and was for centuries the economic heart of Venice. Built by architect Antonio da Ponte, the single-span stone bridge replaced earlier wooden structures and quickly became a marvel of Renaissance engineering. It connects the districts of San Marco and San Polo, with the nearby Rialto Market historically serving as Venice’s commercial and maritime hub. Gondolas and vaporetti (water buses) still pass beneath its iconic arch, making it one of the most visited and photographed locations in the city.
