The city, known for its blend of Islamic and European-style architecture, was founded in the 11th century. The skyline in the image showcases various minarets and towers from the city’s historic mosques and palaces. Meknès became the capital under Sultan Moulay Ismail in the late 17th century, who turned the city into a Moroccan Versailles, constructing monumental gates, palaces, and mosques.
